macOS app asked if I’d like to give feedback

I opened DayOne on my mac and I was asked some annoying question to the effect of ‘are you enjoying DayOne’ to which I responded Not Really. I was then offered a link to provide feedback. The link to provide feedback brought me to a website that had no private way of providing feedback so I am going to provide open feedback for the community to read as well. I doubt anyone will take much notice either from within DayOne nor within the community so I might even post my social security number, birthdate and name just to see if anyone (including a webscraper) actually cares to read the requested feedback. Stay tuned!

Why don’t I enjoy using DayOne on my mac. Simple. I don’t think you care about DayOne for mac. So when I really want to journal about something important and I sit in front of my computer and try to journal – I feel like dayone is a crap app. I have posted here about the highlighter issues. I have inquired about other issues as well. But dayone doesn’t seem to care about the mac app.

Instead dayone is adding AI and making my journals available online. Both are reasons I dislike pouring my thoughts and feelings into dayone. Instead of making the on device experience better, dayone is trying desperately to make my entries accessable to the data breach du jour that will soon be dayone.

Thus my love/hate relationship with this premium subscription I pay. I pay for dayone because of the way I can bring in data from my iphone and pictures from a day or location. I love it.

Making my journals available on the web does not add value. Not improving the mac app does not add value. I don’t want my journaling app to be on the cutting edge of AI because I don’t have an ounce of faith that dayone is privacy centric. Me thinks though doth protest too much… kinda comes to mind…

Anyway, if dayone doesn’t appreciate this as a forum posting then Fix Yo Sh!t cause the link seemed to provide me nothing but this option.

    Yours truly,

    Skeptical in Seatle

  • Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback — I hear your concerns.

Regarding your point about AI: Our on-device features use the Foundation Models framework, which taps into the on-device model at the core of Apple Intelligence. That means all processing happens privately and securely on your device — your journal entries never leave your iPhone or iPad, and everything works offline.
