Mac Version 2024.12 (1565) Crashing on launch
-
After installing from the App Store everything worked for about 4 days in the trial period and then now it’s crashing when trying to start for a couple days now. I rebooted, un-installed and re-installed but still it’s having trouble. It works fine on my iPad and iPhone so it has to be something on the Mac app only. I have the System Error log in the pop-up window that I can export to Day One for review.

I am having this same issue – I cannot load the Mac app at all. Would love to know if there’s a hotfix coming!
-
Hi @edwarddoyle713a91ea42 and @chrismatallana – would you confirm the version of the Mac app you have installed where you’re seeing crash issues?
Would you also share the OS version number as well?
-
@staff-bluejay Hey there! Here is the info:
- Day One version: 2024.12.1 (1566)
- MacOS version: Sonoma 14.5
-
@chrismatallana, Can you also confirm if you can see all your entries at dayone.me?
If you can see all your entries there, could you try uninstalling and then installing Day One again on your Mac?
When doing so, please follow the steps in this guide: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/troubleshooting/uninstalling-and-reinstalling-day-one-for-macos/
After doing that, please let us know if you still run into that crash.
-
@staff-reid Hey there. Thanks for the resources. I followed the instructions and am still running into the crash. Any other ideas on how to resolve it?
-
@chrismatallana Can I have you try running the following command in Terminal on your Mac? After running that command, are you still experiencing the crash?
defaults delete ~/Library/Group Containers/5U8NS4GX82.dayoneapp2/Library/Preferences/5U8NS4GX82.dayoneapp2 DOOpenEntryIDs
-
@staff-lynn I had already done that step. The app opens, I move the mouse, and then it’s completely frozen. I am not having this issue with another app, so it’s not a matter of my system not having enough data or anything like that.
I think I just need to export my data from the iPad or iPhone and find a new app. Appreciate yall’s attempted help.
-
@chrismatallana I’ve emailed you directly so we can follow up on this with you. Let me know if you don’t see it shortly in your inbox

I am also experiencing DayOne crashing since upgrading to version 2024.24 (1616) on MacOS Monterey 12.7.6. The crashes are intermittent. It works for a while then it crashes.

Hi there, @zeronaught
Can you confirm your Mac device you are using and what processor is uses? E.g MacBook Pro 16 Intel
Additionally, have you given a reinstall a try? https://dayoneapp.com/guides/troubleshooting/uninstalling-and-reinstalling-day-one-for-macos/

Hi @staff-joey8,
I am running macOS Monterey (12.7.6) on a MacBook Pro with Intel Core i7. Day-One has stopped crashing (mysteriously) so there is nothing more I can add. I will monitor it and let you know if the problem recurs.
Thanks for your interest.
Stewart
