Locked Journal wants key- where to find?
-
I got a new IPhone 13 and it didn’t download my Day One Journal. It says journal is locked and needs encryption key. Where do I find my key? I found it once on a QR code but can’t take a pic and scan it if I m on my phone. Now I don’t know where that was. Wasted hours on this ready to get a new journal but I have years there and hate to lose it.

Hello there. When first creating a Day One account, an encryption key is generated within the app. If you are using iCloud Keychain on your iOS devices, it should be saved there automatically.
Without sharing the key with us, is the encryption key present on any device in the following places?
- iOS: Day One > Settings > Sync > Encryption Key
- Mac: Day One > Settings > Sync > Advanced > View Encryption Key
- Android: Day One > Settings > Sync > Encryption Key
Could the key have been manually saved as a PDF to iCloud Drive (Files) or another location?

It’s not my first Day One account. But it won’t download the app from the cloud so I can’t go into settings. It always says “ can’t download, try later. “

I had downloaded a second copy from the App Store and found a key to unlock the journal. However this is not the original journal on my acct( I thought basic can only have one. So my entries are all still missing somewhere.

Hello @hawaiichocolate. Would you have been using Day One Classic (version 1) previously? If so, we have some options to import data from version 1 to the current app: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-classic/day-one-classic-version-1-recovery-options/
May we have you try those options?
