Location feature in Windows app / One Day on the Web

I enabled “auto add location” in both the Windows app and Day One on the Web. Day One then asked for permission to save my location, which I granted. But there seems to be no place in the Journal to actually find the location of entries.

Am I missing something, or has this not been implemented yet? If it hasn’t been implemented yet: 1) It seems inconsistent to offer this under settings yet not make it available to view in the Journal itself; 2) When can we expect this basic feature to come to the Windows app and web version?

  • Hi there, @termoe6a3ea39505

I tested how it works, and the location should be visible at the bottom left of the entry or on the entry list.

When you are viewing an entry, you can click on ‘View Entry Info’ to get more detailed information:

What platform did you test it on? I’m using DayOne on the web and the windows app. When I click on “view entry info” it does not show any location information.

Under “Pricing / compare plans” the “Map and Calendar View” are included in the Basic Plan. And yet there is no Map View in the Windows app or DayOne on the web.

Why do the Windows app / DayOne on the web not have this standard feature you promise with the Basic Plan?

Does this lack of standard features only affect users on the Basic Plan who are on Windows or DayOne on the web , or on the Premium plan also?

In other words: If I am strictly a Windows user and pay the full annual subscription price for the Premium Plan, will I receive the same full feature set as Apple users, or will I be missing even those standard features promised in the Basic plan?

I think I see now: if I make an entry in DayOne on my Android device it records the location, which I can then see under “entry info” on my Windows device.

I assumed the function wasn’t supported since there is no “Maps” tab in the Windows app or on the web. All clear now!

But it would still be good to have a “Maps” tab in the Windows app and DayOne on the web in order to have an overview of all locations, rather than having to use “view entry info” to see the location of just each individual entry.

Any roadmap on when Windows / web users can expect this feature parity?

  • Hi @termoe6a3ea39505 – We intend to add the Map view to the web/Windows apps in future, but I can’t provide a timeline for that at this stage.
