Local Media Storage on External Hard Drive

    Hello!

I’ve been trying to move the application and its data from my Mac’s internal drive to my external hard drive in order to free up space. I attempted to use symbolic links in the Terminal to redirect the file locations. However, it seems these symbolic links aren’t working as expected, because new files are still being created on the internal drive, even after I’ve moved and cleared out the old files.

Has anyone experienced this issue or have any suggestions on how to fix it? Any advice or alternative solutions would be greatly appreciated ^^

  • We don’t have official support for storing Day One’s files on an external drive. However, if you’d like to reduce the amount of storage used by the app, you can navigate to Day One > Settings > Sync and make sure you have “Optimize Mac Storage” selected.

This will ensure that your full-resolution media is stored in the cloud and the originals will be downloaded to your computer as needed.

You can also use the “Clear Local Media Storage” button below that, which can free up some space on your internal drive.
