LaTeX equations
-
I would love to see support for LaTeX added to Day One, specifically:
- Inline latex equations (e.g. typing $2 + 2 = 5$ and when pressing space, the equation is rendered; on click we can edit)
- Block latex equations (e.g. $$2 + 2 = 5$$ typed on a new line; might give us ability to center these in the page—same editing capabilities)
This is supported by apps that are competitors to Day One in the journaling space, for example: Notion, Coda.io, and Obsidian—plenty of others too.
I saw a thread about this a while back (a year or so ago), and I wanted to revive the discussion. This is really the main pain point for me at the moment, which is making me consider switching to a different app for journalling (Obsidian is probably the closest in terms of basic journalling features, ease of use, and syncing across devices, while Coda.io is more similar with its integration with other apps; but notably does not have an offline mode).
If Day One were open source I’d consider implementing it myself :)

Great idea, @robbycostales!
I’ve added it to our ideas board for consideration. If others would like such a feature too, feel free to comment with a +1 on this thread :)

This was previously brought up last year, too: https://forums.dayoneapp.com/forums/topic/equations/ -
