Keyboard shortcuts for Formatting
-
I use the little format option at the bottom right-hand corner all the time to format text. But having to use it really breaks my flow of thoughts — the essence of a journaling app.
Please, can we have keyboard shortcuts, OR , at least make them options in the Edit menu and then I can do my own mappings using the standard approach that Apple offers in System Setup.

Hi @karinkolbe,
That’s a great request! We don’t currently offer that feature, but I would be happy to forward your request to the team for consideration. -

Here are a few basic keyboard shortcuts for formatting.
- For bold, underline, or italics, highlight the text and press ⌘B, ⌘U, or ⌘I.
- Strikethrough can be done using Markdown: two tilda characters, the text, and two ending tilda characters. (No space between the text and the tilda characters).
- To create an unordered list (bulleted), at the beginning of the line type an asterisk (or a hyphen), press Space, and then type the text for the bullet item.
- To create an ordered list (numbered), at the beginning of the line type a 1, press Space, and then type the text for the numbered item.
- To format a line as a heading, at the beginning of the line type one octothorp (aka pound sign) character (or two or three), press Space, then type text to format as H1 (or H2 or H3).
- To format a paragraph as quote text, at the begging of the line type a right angle bracket, press Space, then type text.
