Journal privacy under new privacy policy
-
On reading through the new privacy policy I came across the section on journal entries. It says they are private and not accessible to other Dayone users but it doesn’t specify if they are accessible to Dayone staff. So are journal entries in any way at all, viewable by any Dayone staff or anyone else other than just the user who created the entries?

Hello there,
I’m glad you reached out about your concerns. I’m happy to help clarify how much access we have to your journal entries.
One thing you may find reassuring is how your entries are encrypted, preventing the content from being readable. I recommend you check out our guide here for those details: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-sync/end-to-end-encryption-faq/
So if you are using End to End Encryption then those entries are encrypted at all stages on device and server and only the user with the Encryption Key has access to view the contents written and added to their entries. As we do not save any encryption keys on our end, we would not be able to read or view any contents added to those encrypted journals. We know the contents added to journals are valuable and private. That is why End to End Encryption is the default setting for journals.
Hopefully that helps answer the questions you had.
