is there a reason why there is a lag on the mobile app right now?

when typing out my journal entry, there is a major lag as I type.

- What device is being used?
- Can you find the version number of Day One on each device and let me know what you have? See here: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/settings/locating-the-version-number-of-day-one/
- What is the OS version?
- Can you tell us more about the entry like 1) is there media attached 2) is there a lot of formatting (bold/lists/etc) 3) how long is the entry? You can check the word count in the entry info.

I have noticed when typing into journal there is a noticeable delay as to when the typed letter appears. I have updated the I pad. This lag ahas not always been the case. I have to say as I type this the letters appear as I type but not in the journal. Any advice? I am not tech savvy, so I am not sure if it’s me, the I pad or the app. Thank you for your assistance!
This is an open issue we are investigating on our iOS app that we hope to have resolved as soon as possible. We don’t have a correction ready for it at this moment.
If you notice any pattern to the lag, for example it only occurs on entries with media, or when you first start the app, please do let us know to help our investigation to find a resolution.

I’m happy to update this thread with some good news! Our next update to the app, 2023.12, will contain a correction for the text lag issues some of you have noted on iOS. Thanks so much for all your reports on this so we knew to investigate and correct this.

Some additional info: For me it’s the combination of the magic keyboard on my iPad and editing an existing entry. When I create and start editing a new entry, the lag is not there. As soon as I come back to it, the lag makes it unusable. Note, if while editing I detach my magic keyboard, type using the on screen keyboard, then re-attach the magic keyboard, the lag is gone. Not a usable workaround, but an idicator of what is happening in the background.

Also – I’ve had several emails with Support on this and noone has let me know that there is a fix planned. Seems to be some communication not happening there. thanks.

Oh I see – whatever fix was in 2023.12 did not fix what I am seeing – I am on 2023.13 and it is bad as ever.

We have just released an update to the app that has some additional improvements for the text lag issues some of you have noted on iOS. Please watch for the 2023.14 update in the App Store and install it as soon as you see it become available
