iPad: Text Not Scrolling While Typing
-
One of my primary uses of Day One has been to take notes during a presentation on my iPad (using a physical keyboard). (I know I can use Apple Notes and may need to make that switch but I like the look of Day One.) The problem I am encountering is that when my text reaches the bottom of the page, the last couple of lines, including the line I am trying to enter, does not scroll into the visible portion of the window. It remains hidden by text formatting bar or whatever.
In Apple Notes the text automatically scrolls so the place where I am adding more text is never hidden. I am able to keep typing without worrying about adjusting the location of the “cursor” or the text all the time.
Note that my common setup is to be in multi-view mode with an app on the left of my iPad Pro that has whatever resource or reference I am viewing using any number of apps and the right hand half of the screen is Day One open to a new note which takes up all of the Day One app window. (I hide the sidebar when creating a note like this.)
Is there some setting I need to change so that Day One will automatically keep the text entry location/cursor above the “toolbar” and visible as I enter text?
If not, no worries. I’ll just make the switch to Apple Notes.

I haven’t been able to reproduce this issue in testing. Would you be able to share a screencast/screenshot that shows the issue occurring?
Could you also confirm which versions of iPad, iOS, and Day One you are using so we can test further? Thanks.

this happens when you’re on iPad Split View and each app has 50% of the screen. I experience this as well and can send in a video when I’m back at my iPad

Yes, it happens when I am in iPad Split View or Stage Manager or whatever they call it on an iPad. I have one app (Not Day One) open on one side from which I am referencing information or whatever and Day One on the other side to take notes.

Thanks, I haven’t been able to reproduce the issue on an iPad using split view. The cursor remains visible for me at the bottom of the screen. If anyone can provide a video and details of iPad and iOS versions, that would help us to reproduce the issue.

I am also unable to reproduce now. I wonder if a recent update fixed something. For more info, here are my specs:
- iPad Pro 13-inch, M4
- iPadOS 18.1 (22B83)
- Day One Version 2024.22 (2549)
- Magic Keyboard case attached

Thanks for the update, @boldwater8759!
If anyone else is facing this issue, please ensure you’re using the latest iPadOS and Day One version.
If it persists, please share a screen recording with us, along with your device specs. You can upload your recording to a service like Dropbox, Drive, or similar, and then share the shareable link here with us.
