Intellectual Property

    Who owns the intellectual property of journals we create? Before I purchase or create one single entry, I’ve got to know that.

    I know the intellectual property rights differ, for instance, between your WordPress self hosted sites and WordPress blogs. Where can I locate explicit information about this for Day One?

    Thank you.

    And specifically what does this mean?

    “…you grant the Company a fully paid, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive and fully sublicensable right (including any moral rights) and license to use, license, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publicly perform, and publicly display, Your Content (in whole or in part) and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media or technology now known or later developed, for the purposes of operating and providing the Company Properties to you and to our other Users.

    does this mean my private journal entries can be read and used by you in any public way you want? That sounds horrible.

    @staff-james

    Can you help me out?

    Hello @misspnixon.

    No, we cannot read or use your journal data. From our privacy policy:

    Your Journal Entries: The most important thing we collect from you are your journal entries. Your journal entries are private. This means that when you use Day One to create a journal, none of the entries in that journal are made publicly viewable on the Internet. Entries are not accessible to other Day One users. We also offer End to End Encryption on our journals. If that option is enabled, it is impossible for our employees to access your journal data.

    Let us know if that helps or if we can assist you further.
