Importing json
-
Hello, I have a blog that I’ve converted into json format for import into Day One.
I divided the blog into years so I have blog-2005.json blog-2006.json etc. I want to import all the years into Day One all the photos for all the years are in one /photos directory inside the folder with all the json files. Ready for import.
I did attempt import but got The operation couldn’t be completed. (DOCore.DOImporterError error1.)
Questions:
Can I import multiple json files as long as they are in the .zip? Or do I need to have one json per zip?
Do the photos need to be in md5 hash format? Please recommend a best practice for this import.

Hello @dancdyer,
Thanks for reaching out. The JSON importer is meant for JSON files exported from Day One. The JSON would have to be in Day One’s specific format in order for that file to be imported successfully.
We do provide sample files here: https://dayoneapp.com/blog/help_guides/importing-data-from-json-files/
This will likely take some time on your end in order to get those JSON’s into the specific format needed to import into Day One.
Hopefully that helps.

Yes I am aware. I have spent considerable time geting the files into the json format as downloaded from the Day One link. I’m now ready for importing into Day One. Neither the json file example or the support page is very descriptive on whether the import can contain more than one json file, or whether the images need to be in md5 hash format.

You can have multiple JSON files in one ZIP. One JSON file corresponds to one journal, however. So, you’ll have to be mindful of any journal number limits that might apply to your account. For example, free/Basic users can only have one journal while Premium users can have an unlimited number.

Yes, otherwise, the entries won’t be imported.
