Importing from Journey
-
Hello
I would like to import my diary data from Journey to Day One. I followed the instructions from here: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-for-android/importing-to-day-one-android/
But it doesn’t work. After select Import Journey.zip comes Import Failed.
Can someone help me? Have 3 years of data that I want to import.
-
By the way, it works the other way around. Export in Day One as JSON-ZIP and importing in Journey as Data – Import.
-
Now there has been an update of the Android app. Unfortunately, still the same error message. So it will probably not be with the switch from Journey to Day One. What a pity.
But there isn’t really any support here.

Hey there! Hopefully someone better placed than me comes to assist soon – but I recently switched from Journey to DayOne, and I did have an initial issue with the data transfer. For some reason the default download from Journey is a .doc file, which when I tried to import using the “select Journey.zip” it failed. I went back to Journey and realised there was another box to select for .zip at export stage, deselected .doc, and it worked after that.
I expect you may have tried that already, but just incase… Otherwise, I hope someone comes back to you soon.

@2bhf9y6d4x can you confirm which version you’re on? We did have an issue with Journey imports that should have been corrected in 2024.2. If you’re seeing it still on that version we’ll need to get to work on further investigating this so we can fix it for you.

I have version 2024.1
But I found a solution for myself. This is a bit complicated.
I exported all my entries with Journey – iOS. Then import into Diaro – Android. Now Export from Diaro (Backup & Restore) and then import to Day One.
That works for me, there are still a few cryptic things in the text when there is a photo with the entry.

I have the same issue. I am trying to import Journey entries and they do not work. I am using a Chromebook version of the Android app. To make matters worse, every time I tried an import, Day One created a new journal. That isn’t what I want at all. How do I resolve this issue? I’d like to make the switch, but am very disappointed with this first round at Day One.

Hi there!
Same problem here. I want to import all my entries from Journey to Day One, but it returns an error all the time (“0 entries imported”).
I tried exporting the JSON zip file from the Journey Mac app and iOS app, and is the same.
Does anybody know if this bug will be fixed soon? Or if there is another way to do it?
I can’t migrate now to Day One.Thanks

Hi @nexocreativo – would you confirm which version you’re on? We recently fixed an issue with Journey imports in 2024.2 (Android app), so we want to make sure you’re not seeing an old bug.

I recently switched from Journey on Android to Day One on iOS. After many hours trying to figure out a workaround, I finally found one.
I used my husband’s Android phone and logged into my Journey there, and exported the entries into a zip file. Then I downloaded Day One on the same Android, accessed my account, and imported the aforementioned zip file.
Once it had synced, it was successfully uploaded to Day One when I checked my iPhone. -
I am having the same problem, but I do not own an Android device. The version I am on is 2024.22. Is there a plan to address this on ios and/or iPhone/iPad, or a workaround (without an android). Thank you.
