Import workout / exercise information (including maps)

I keep an exercise journal to track runs, tramps, and other exercise activity. My current workflow is to take a screen shot from Apple Activity and save that screenshot Into DayOne. It would be great if there was a more streamlined process for importing and tracking exercise activity. The key elements I would be looking for are:

    1. Workout time.
    2. Average heart rate
    3. Average pace
    4. Elevation gain (if populated).
    5. Calories burned.
    6. Map of the activity route.

It would be cool to have something like the media import that shows you the activity you could import. Thanks for listening.

  • Hello @joshuatabor!

Thanks for reaching out to us. That’s a great idea! I currently have a similar flow for my Health and Fitness journal! I’ve also been using the Suggestions option on iOS. That uses the Apple Journal API that will pull in some workout info for you automatically.

If you’re using Day One on iOS, give that a look! I’d be happy to forward your other requests over to the team for consideration.

I appreciate the feedback. I have not made much use of the suggestion feature, but will give it go.

I would like the same feature. I have used the Apple Journal suggestions, but it doesn’t look great and provides very limited information. What I would really like is a streamlined way to add the image from the Fitness app that shows workout stats, date and time, and a map. That’s what is copied when I share the workout from the Fitness app itself. Is there a way for Day One to automatically import that image?

  • Hello @jasonact!

We can definitely submit a feature request on your behalf. This is kinda tricky though because Apple locks down their Health app info pretty tightly and they don’t allow much information to be automatically shared from there.

When developing a fitness app, it’s essential to consider how to import workout or exercise information seamlessly, including the integration of maps for location-based features. For example, incorporating GPS tracking for outdoor runs or cycling can enhance the user experience. A detailed guide on the costs involved in building such an app can be found here: https://www.cleveroad.com/blog/how-much-does-it-cost-to-make-a-fitness-app/. This helps developers and businesses plan their budgets more accurately when incorporating advanced features.

I am chiming in so that I get updated on this. I’d love to have my walking routes sync more seamlessly with Day One.

I’ve added your vote to this idea in our internal ideas board @demilo.

Importing workout or exercise information, including maps, can really enhance a fitness app’s functionality. It allows users to track their progress, review past routes, and plan future workouts more efficiently. Whether it’s GPS data from running or cycling routes, or structured exercise routines, having this information easily accessible makes the experience much more personalized. If you’re curious about the technical and financial aspects of implementing such features, you can check out https://www.cleveroad.com/blog/how-much-does-it-cost-to-make-a-fitness-app/. Overall, seamless data import helps users stay motivated and maintain a consistent fitness routine.

  • Hello @davieiwx!

We recently just announced a Strava importer which would help import a lot of fitness logged info.

Have you been able to give that a go?
