Implement landscape camera mode and PDF photo size option immediately

I am a paid Premium user of Day One on iOS and macOS. This is now the seventh time I am submitting the same request, and the fact that nothing has been improved so far is completely unacceptable.

Your in-app camera still forces only square photos. This is ridiculous. When exporting my journal to PDF, these square photos ruin the layout and waste an enormous amount of space. I have been demanding for years that you support the iPhone’s default landscape (wide) camera mode. Yet it continues to be ignored.

There is still no option at all to control photo size when exporting to PDF. This is basic functionality. Competing apps like Diaro have had this for years. I cannot understand why you refuse to implement such an obviously necessary feature.

This is not a difficult request to create a new feature. “Stop insisting on using your unnecessary in-app camera, forcing us to deal with garbage placement, and just use the iPhone’s default camera” — why are you stubbornly refusing this? Give a clear answer about this. Because of this, I have to go out to use the camera when using the diary. When exporting to PDF, square photos occupy too much space, and when they accumulate, the number of pages increases too much.

Let me be clear. I will not accept silence, excuses, or another empty “forwarded to the developers” response. I am a paying user and therefore have the right to receive a direct answer. Why have these features not been implemented despite repeated requests? Do you intend to fix this or not?

Among IT-related communities in our country, people using this app are known for reacting with “This is garbage,” “Their attitude of not knowing why they should fix it is lazy and arrogant,” “Seeing that they don’t listen to customers, they will soon become obsolete” whenever the company and these two issues are discussed.

I will no longer be patient. This time, I expect a clear and honest response.

  • Hi @brnzkimb527d78b3b – Thank you for your feedback and patience. To be clear, we are not refusing to implement these features. The requests for landscape camera mode and PDF photo resizing are valid and on our tracked list of user suggestions.

We understand that these features are important to you, but the honest answer is that at this time, we have prioritized other features and improvements that affect a larger group of users and core functionality.

All requests are considered, but not every suggestion can be implemented as quickly as we would like. We appreciate your continued input and will revisit these features as our development priorities evolve.

You wrote, “All requests are considered.” Do you think that’s an acceptable answer after so many years of the same request being ignored? That line is meaningless if nothing ever changes. “Considered” without action is not consideration — it’s dismissal.

You say you “prioritized other features.” That is not an explanation, that is avoidance. If this has truly been on your list all this time, then why has nothing been delivered? Six years is more than enough time. Even writing a single line of code each day would have solved this problem many times over. The reality is clear: you never had the intention to implement it.

Stop repeating the same recycled phrases. Your paying users deserve a concrete answer. Will you implement landscape camera support and PDF photo resizing, yes or no?

  • Thank you for your passionate input. It’s understandable to feel frustrated when a specific feature has not been addressed, especially after years of making the request. While it may seem like “nothing ever changes,” we constantly implement and improve many aspects of our apps, guided by feedback from all users—but the change may not always be visible in the specific areas you care about most.

When we say “all requests are considered,” we mean that each suggestion is reviewed as part of our feature-planning process. We weigh all feedback against other requests, technical feasibility, and overall product direction to make decisions. This does not mean dismissal, but rather prioritizing based on multiple factors.

At this time, we do not have a definitive update regarding the addition of landscape camera support or PDF photo resizing. As previously mentioned, all user suggestions—including yours—are tracked and considered during our ongoing product development planning, but we cannot provide a concrete yes/no answer about when or if these specific features will be implemented. All I can say for now is we hope to improve these features eventually.

We recognize that this is not the absolute certainty you are looking for, and we are sorry to disappoint. Thank you for continuing to share your feedback with us.
