How to add multiple photos at once from Photos on macOS/Desktop?

I’m trying to figure out if there’s any way to create a journal entry by selecting or adding multiple photos at once from the mac desktop app.

I’ve tried holding shift, command, option, control when starting from the “Apple Photo Library” pane of the app, as well as from the “Add Media From Today” gallery, but as soon as I click the pane disappears. This is super annoying when I’m trying to create an entry with a bunch of photos from a given day.

Is there some way to do this?

Hello! Thanks for reaching out. The best options to add multiple photos to Day One on Mac would be the following:

    • Drag and drop from the Photos app to Day One
    • Use the Finder to select multiple photos. To do this, click the paper clip icon at the bottom right of an entry, then Browse Files. This will open a Finder window. Scroll to the bottom on the left column and choose Photos. This will open the media picker from the Photos app and you can select multiple photos for the entry.

Let us know if that helps or if we can assist you further.

This is so incredible inconvenient. Why can’t this be done within in Journal One app? It doesn’t make any sense.

  • Hi @axlrush and @whizziwig,

Just to clarify, adding multiple media files in and entry is a Premium feature, as noted on our pricing page: https://dayoneapp.com/premium/#day-one-premium-pricing

With the Premium plan, you can select multiple image files from a finder window and drag-and-drop them directly into a Journal entry within Day One app.

For more information, you can check out our guide on adding media to a journal entry here:

I have Premium, and I can still only add one photo at a time from the in-app media picker, which is next to useless. Why do I have to add pics one at a time? Why is there no way to choose more than 1 photo at a time for the day from the media picker?

To be clear, from Day One’s own instructions: Click the Paper Clip icon at the bottom right of an entry and choose Add Media from Today for a small, in-app media picker.

When you click the paper clip and choose ‘add media from today’ for the in-app media picker, you are only allowed to choose one media item, and it will populate the entry. Then you have to click the paper clip, again, and choose another media item, and it will populate. So if you have 5 media items you want, you have to do this procedure 5 times, which is asinine.

I would love to talk to the product and UX people that thought this was a good user experience.

Hi @zhnj9sz2g6. Not a developer but I think it was a limitation on the Apple side IIRC. I personally prefer drag and drop from Photos to Day One. It’s pretty quick and seamless.
