How can I increase line width on MacOS?
-
On MacOS the default line width is tiny, most of my screen is just empty space. How can I increase this? There’s no option to change it in preferences. I’ve tried clicking ‘show package contents’ on the app. In Contents>Resources there’s ‘day-one-mac-override.css’ with ‘max-width’ set at 640px, however changing this and restarting the app makes no difference. Any ideas?

Hello @realseytonic,
There currently is not a way to increase this within Day One.
I’d be happy to submit a feature request on your behalf. 😊

I have already submitted a feature request for increasing the line width…
…on March 1, 2022.Nearly four years have passed, and no action has been taken.
Below is the text from my inquiry at that time:
Good day,
I’m using Day One on macOS 12.2.1, and am finding that on the MacBook Pro 16” in particular, the margins in the journal entry window are a bit wider than I would like, as shown in the image below. In fact, I don’t remember the margins being so wide… but it seems that there’s no way to adjust the margins, and the margins do not auto-adjust in respect to the window size. It seems a bit restrictive and somewhat unnatural, compared to previous builds (or was it always this way?).
Is this an issue with the current Day One build? If it’s a “feature,” would you kindly consider giving the user more control over the margins in the journal text entry area?

I received a reply from “Lindsey”, who wrote:
Great request! That is not a feature that we currently offer, but I would be happy to forward your request to the team for consideration.

Apparently, it wasn’t something that the Day One developers felt they needed to do… four years later, and here we are, with disproportionately huge left and right margins, which are especially noticeable on 15-inch screens and above.
Day One support staff, could you please escalate this request?

Our developers will still consider it. If more users request such a change, it increases its chances to being worked on sooner.
