Frustration with lack of development of Day One Windows app
-
I was very happy to see the Day One app available for Windows and have been gladly using it ever since it came out. (Even moved me to switch from another app.)
But now it’s been 2 months and not even the most basic features of other platforms are implemented.
I read here about desires for time stamp options, more colors for highlighting text, etc. on iOS and Mac – all legitimate and hopefully implemented soon – but on the Windows app I can’t even protect my journal with a password! No “This Day” function, no Map View . . .
Please make feature parity a priority! -
Hello @termoe6a3ea39505,
Feature parity is a big goal for us. It is also a big undertaking.
Keep in mind, the Windows app was just released and iOS and Mac have been in development since 2012.
Parity will take time, but it is something we hope to have in the future between all platforms.

@staff-reid what exactly was “just released”? correct me if I’m wrong, but Windows “app” is just an Electron wrapper for a web version, and it was released more than two years ago, it’s not a proper app like on MacOS. So I’m not fully sure it’s correct to make this argument about here
And second this, web version is lacking hard in terms of functionality and has such bugs that it looks like it’s a development version of some sort

@dpolovinkin When you compare the two Windows/Web and macOS the web app is very new. MacOS and iOS have been in development since 2012 and the Web app is just a couple of years in. It’s going to take time to get it to include all the features seen in the macOS app.

“The web app is just a few years in . . .” True, but what features have been added in those few years? I’m still waiting for these basic features:
- Password protection for login
- On this Day view
- Map view
Do these features have to be “voted on” in the forums for the Dev. Team to put them on their backlog, or are they considered so basic that they have priority over advanced features on the other platforms?
