When I open the app on my mac, all I get is the spin wheel. The Day One App will not respond. Also there appears to be no way to contact customer support for Day One without having access to the functionality in the App, which I do not have because the app will not respond. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

The first thing I’d suggest you do is uninstall and reinstall the app from the Apple App Store.
