Feature Request: Customizable Daily Journal Entry Split Time

I would like to request a feature that allows users to customize the time at which journal entries are split, as well as the way dates are displayed. Currently, the entries are split by day at midnight (00:00), which may not be convenient for all users. It would be helpful if there was an option to change the split time to a different hour, such as 04:00 or any other time that suits the user’s preference. Additionally, it would be useful if the dates were displayed differently to reflect this split time.

For example, if a user takes a journal entry at 01:00 on May 2nd, it should be displayed as 25:00 on May 1st, if the split time is set to 04:00. This would allow users to better track their entries and ensure that all their thoughts and experiences from a particular day are included in the same “day”.

I believe this feature would greatly enhance the user experience and make the app more customizable to individual preferences. Thank you for considering this feature request.

Thanks for your request and the details included. For your routine now, does it help to be able to manually edit the date and time? https://dayoneapp.com/guides/tips-and-tutorials/change-the-date-time-of-an-entry

I tried editing the time to before midnight — 23:XX or something, but it feels unnatural to see a lot of journal entries “jamming” between 23:00 and 24:00. 😂 And the weather information is inaccurate.

  • We can get that requested to the team for future consideration.

For now, I think a timestamp within the same entry using Slash Commands could be a great option to try.
