Export via CLI

I had a look at the command line hoping that I would be able to do a backup to PDF using it which would allow me to schedule regular exports but clearly, that’s not possible. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can do this without resorting to rolling my own!

    Hello there!

Since the purpose would be keeping Backups, perhaps doing an export with the current CLI (and keeping a local copy of those) would suffice. With the exported data, you can always reinstall DayOne, re-import your entries, and generate a PDF as needed.

Another possibility would be to build a script with Apple’s Automator, to Launch the app, select all the Entries, generate a PDF and save it somewhere.

Automator has a Record functionality (available in Workflow > Record), which lets you teach it what repetitive task you’d like to perform. Woult take a bit of trial and error, but it should be possible.

You can read more about Automator here: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/automator/welcome/mac

All the things being said, I’ve passed your feature request to the engineering team as well.

    Thank you for reaching out!
