Enhancing Day One: Suggestions for a More Powerful Web Experience
-
I have been a long-time user of Day One. I started using Day One on Android and recently transitioned to the web version after acquiring a smaller phone. I love Day One. While the Android app lags far behind the iOS version, in my opinion, it remains one of the best journaling apps available.
I have two complaints. After all the effort put into the web app, why aren’t there any keyboard shortcuts? I’d like the ability to delete entries and open or close the sidebar without using my mouse. It might seem minor, but being able to perform tasks quickly with the keyboard is a must-have feature for any editing application.
However, my biggest complaint as a premium user is the lack of location and weather integration in the web version. Even when I enable location services, it still doesn’t record my location. As a web developer myself, I find this quite surprising. While I don’t want to oversimplify the issue, it doesn’t seem like something that should be overly challenging to implement.
My goal in raising these concerns is simply to show the Day One web development team that their work is deeply appreciated. Features like keyboard shortcuts, weather, and mapping integration would be wonderful additions.
On top of that, if the team is ever looking for a web development intern for fall 2025, I would be more than happy to contribute to the development of an app that I genuinely use and care about ;).

Hi there Anis!
First of all, thank you for the enthusiasm and sharing the love for the Day One App.
Regarding the shortcuts, we have shared your feedback with our developers and it will be taken into consideration. Just so you know, we have a couple of them already available:
- Ctrl + Shift + n – Creates a new Entry on the current Journal
- Ctrl + Shift + t – Toggles between the light and dark themes.
I realise they are not the ones you need at the moment, but I figured it’s always good to know.
As for location and weather integration on Web, that is indeed not something we have implemented yet but, once again, rest assure we will share this feedback with our team.
While you wait, I invite you to keep an eye out for our Product Release Notes for any new features or fixes coming your way in the future.

Finally, we really appreciate your interest on working with us, it is always great to see someone as excited about our products as we are.
