Encryption Key
-
I recently reformatted my laptop and I didn’t know that I was supposed to get an encryption key for my Day One journal. How can I retrieve this?

Hello! 👋 We will do our best to help.
Without sharing the key with us, is the encryption key present on any device in the following places?
- iOS: Day One > Settings > Sync > Encryption Key
- Mac: Day One > Settings > Sync > Advanced > View Encryption Key
- Android: Day One > Settings > Sync > Encryption Key

Hi there, I actually also have this issue but I’m connected via the Mobile side (Pixel 10 Pro).
The whole story is that I just traded in my Pixel 7 for a Pixel 10 and I guess I was still logged in? I didn’t know I needed the Encryption Key either.
I’m trying to sync a Journal that my girlfriend collaborates with me on, she initially invited me so I was wondering how I can retrieve an Encryption Key since I don’t have the previous device in my possession anymore?
Thanks so much in advance. -
Hello @anthonymalgapo!
If a key is not saved in iCloud, Google Drive, or manually saved as a PDF or manually written down, then there really wouldn’t be a way to recover this key.
If you contact Day One Support directly at dayone.me/support they may be able to see if that key was backed up somewhere.
