Editing Shared Journal Entry Permission
-
I was very excited about the shared journal feature we’ve got. I created a whole journal and space for my partner to also write in, just to realize that she can only edit journal entries she created :( and I saw that this is written in the FAQ.
Being able to comment on the entries is the only option other members can actually write their thoughts on the entries, but that makes others just “spectators,”. This is fine, but I’d love a feature to grant co-author permissions for members. This would be awesome so that others can edit or add on to the journal entries that are meant to be co-shared, kind of like Google Doc.
Thank you SO MUCH!

Hi @dachanmin,
That’s correct — entries in a shared journal can only be edited by the shared journal member who created the entry. Journal participants can comment on entries, but not edit the content of an entry they did not create.
That said, I understand your use case where you’d want to co-author a journal entry with a journal member. That is not a feature that we currently offer, but I will submit a feature request on your behalf, and forward your request to the team for consideration. :)

I also would like to add my support for this feature. I expected a shared journal to act like a shared google doc would, where I can edit the levels of permission (viewable, comment-able, editable). That to me would make the most sense. Thanks!

Hi @spencerbd
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are tracking demand for this request, and I have added your vote on your behalf. -

Taking the time to log in and comment for how much I want this editing for shared journals feature!

Thanks for letting us know @terrifiedartist and @nwishing! I can see how awesome co-authors would be, and have shared your support for the feature with the team.

Day One has truly transformed how I capture and share moments, and it’s become a cornerstone of my daily life. However, one thing that holds me back is the inability to edit posts shared with my partner. Collaboration is about building something together, seamlessly blending ideas and perspectives. Not being able to refine or improve on each other’s entries feels like a missed opportunity for deeper connection and creativity.

+1 this was a really important expectation when getting started with Day One after seeing the shared journals premium feature. Incredibly disappointing to discover that you’re unable to coauthor entries.
It’s also a shame to discover that support for shared journals is still limited to just iOS and the webapp. Is there anywhere to track progress on when that might be extended to the Mac app at least?

@brettmcgonigal Features are prioritized by our developers based on the number of requests they receive, but unfortunately, we don’t have an exact timeline for when any specific feature will be released.
-
Thanks Frank! Totally hear ya. That being said – what timescale are we looking at? Weeks or months? Appreciate the help this is going to improve my expertise 10 fold!
-
@brettmcgonigal At this stage we don’t have a timeline for this, so I can only say it’s very unlikely to be in the next few weeks. Beyond that, we will provide an update here when there is any news to share.

Hi – another vote please for this. Just signed up and paid so we can use Day One as a small group to record sightings etc and isn’t going to work well for us if we can’t add to another’s entry. Don’t take too long pls as we may just give up…..
