Disappearing images from notes

    Scenario 1:

    • Create a note, paste a screenshot into the note.
    • Later open the app, the note does not have the screenshot.
    • If the image was the only content in the note, the note is left empty. If the image was appended to a note, the previous content remains, but the new image is MIA.
    • Version history shows no changes, e.g. for the empty note case, it’s 5 instances of an empty note.

    Scenario 2:

    • Create a note on one device, with an image1
    • Add image2 to the same note a few minutes later.
    • Add a screenshot in the app on another device.
    • Return to the original device, see image2 and screenshot blinking for a split second, then being erased by some syncing activity.
    • Same as before, version history shows several identical empty versions.

    Skimmed over this forum and /r/dayoneapp, and looks like you guys have SERIOUS problems with data persistence. I’m closing the app, exporting the data, and if it’s not fixed in a month, canceling my subscription 🤷🏻‍♂️ . What’s the point in saving memories to an app with Alzheimer?

    I also have troubles with some images missing in old journals after encryption changes.
    Support is investigating.
    Since a few months, sync is not as reliable as it used to be, I cannot prove it but I have more troubles than ever.
    Day One is not « the vault » it used to be.

    I’m glad you reached out about your missing media in your Day One app so we can investigate with you! Missing media is something we take quite seriously and want to resolve as quickly as we can.

    I have a few questions to help find a resolution to this for you:

    1. If you tap Settings > Sync > Storage is Optimize Device Storage checked?
    2. Does the media restore itself if you check “Download All Media” in Settings > Sync > Storage?
    3. Have you recently moved entries from one journal to another?
    4. Have you recently changed the encryption settings for any Journal?
    5. What method was used to add the missing images? Did you share them to the app or upload them directly in an entry while editing?
