Disappearing Entry
-
I wrote a long entry yesterday. This morning I noticed that entry didn’t exist. Not on any device, not in the trash, it’s as if I never did anything. Is there any way to restore that entry or to at least find the text? I have a couple hours into it.
Written on a MacBook Air M2 running Tahoe.

Could you check if the entry appears when you log in to the Day One web app here: https://dayone.me/?
Additionally, here’s our guide covering all available recovery options for Day One journal data: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/troubleshooting/data-loss-and-recovery-options/
Have you tried any of these recovery methods already?

It does not appear on dayone.me.
I restored the TimeMachine backup taken just after the entry was written on 12/24, but that didn’t make any difference. I restore the entire /Data/Documents folder. If there is anything additional that needs to be restored, let me know. Thanks.

Thanks for following up. Since restoring your Time Machine backup didn’t bring the entry back, the next thing you can try is checking an entry’s version history — sometimes previous versions of an entry can be recovered this way:
https://dayoneapp.com/guides/troubleshooting/entry-version-history/If you don’t see the entry there, I’m afraid we’ve exhausted all recovery options, and the content may no longer be retrievable. The web app shows you what exists on our server.
I am sorry I was not able to help you more in this case.
