Difficulty in enrolling for premium with a code

I have previously used Dayone in basic mode (about 4-5 years ago), and noticed on a youtube channel a code for a 2 month free trial of Premium using a code. This made me interested in trying the app again to see if I might use it more with the additional features.
When I visit the link in the video and put the code in, I am asked to put in credit card details for the post-trial membership, with a USD price.
I’m in the UK, and I previously set up my account via the apple app store, with the premium price in GBP. When I try to upgrade through the app, it will not accept the code for the 2 month free trial – I am only offered a 1 month free trial and am told the code is not valid.
I cannot get directly in touch with Dayone support because I do not have a premium account.
Can anyone suggest how I can get the offered 2 month free trial without having to pay separately in USD and without losing the data I previously put in Dayone when I tried it before.

If you would like to redeem this option, please go to https://dayone.app/login and sign in with your Day One account that you are using on iPad. Then click Settings > Account on the left side. There is an option to subscribe to Premium. On the payment screen, click/tap to Add Promotion and use the code provided.
This coupon is valid when subscribing via your Day One account at https://dayone.app/settings. It may not be redeemed via in-app purchase through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.Let us know if that helps or if we can assist you further.

I have been corresponding with support by email, (I finally got a response from a person not a bot) and have gone down the route of enrolling through the offer. I will cancel before the expiry date and re-enrol through the iOS app. I thought I’d document this here in case someone else encounters the same situation.
