Default Templates – Not sticking
-
I’m using the Day One app on Macbook iOS. The “Default Template” selection for my journal seems to reset to “None” each day. No matter what I try, I can’t get it to stick. Has anyone else had/solved this problem?

Hi @matthew1286! That is strange that it is not persisting. One thing we can have you try is deleting a preferences cache.
- Please quit Day One
- Open the Terminal app.
- Run this command: killall cfprefsd
- Open Day One and set the default template again.
Let us know if those steps help keep the default template stick.

I am having similar problems with the Web and IOS version of Day One. The Default Template option no longer appears to be available, I think?

Hello @davidgiven!
Can you give us a bit more info? Is this the option to set a default template in the Journal settings that you’re having trouble with?
-
Thanks for the quick response. Yes, correct–I do not see the option to set the default template for a workbook. thanks!

On iOS, you can set a default template for a journal by navigating to Day One’s Settings > Journals > tap on a journal in the list > Advanced > Default Template.
On the web app, this option can be found by navigating to Settings > Journals — you should find the Default Template option near the bottom.
If you’re still not finding the option, could you let us know…
- What Day One version you have installed
- What iOS version you’re using
- What web browser and version you’re using the web app in

Mike, thanks for the quick reply!
Day One’s Settings > Journals > tap on a journal in the list > Advanced > Default Template.
this seems to work for journals, but not for my shared journal? Thanks, David S

Ah, you’re working with a shared journal! At the moment, we don’t support setting a default template for shared journals. You can use your templates when creating individual entries within a shared journal, but we don’t have the option to default to a template for shared journals at the moment.
