Dayone for Mac not picking up Photo information

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve noticed that Day One on my Mac isn’t picking up the date, time or location information from photos loaded from “Media from Today”, which are usually photos taken with my iPhone.

When I edit the time and location info there is no option as there once was, to use the photo info.

Is this yet another feature that’s disappeared?

    Thanks

    Martin

  • Hi Martin,

It seems the problem lies with how Apple Photos handles location data when exporting images.

According to our investigation, in most cases, Apple Photos does not include location data when images are exported. While there are ways to include this data (like using the share tool), simply dragging and dropping, copying, or using Finder will not export the location information.

Unfortunately, this means that Day One isn’t receiving the location data, and we cannot fix this directly as we don’t control how Apple Photos exports images.

However, it’s possible you might have a setting in Photos that allows sharing metadata. Please check this guide for more information: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/troubleshooting/location-not-included-when-using-the-macos-share-extension/

    Thanks for the quick reply.

This has me mystified. I just tried it now, again on my Macbook, and I selected a photo from a few weeks back. It saw the info. It asked me if I wanted to update the location and date/time info contained in the image and I clicked “Update” and it did so.

Yet yesterday when I was doing this it didn’t do it.

I wish that I could post a screen shot to illustrate what I’m seeing, but it seems that I cannot do so.

It appears to be one of those random things. Sometimes it works, other times, not so much.

    Cheers

    Martin
