Day One Web data loss

I’ve been having a consistent issue with entries on Day One Web not saving under specific conditions. (I’m using Firefox in Windows 10.) I tend to write entries the day after, so I want the date to reflect the day I’m writing about, not the current date & time that I’m making the entry.

    1. I click the Insert Template button
    2. I enter my content beneath each heading
    3. I click on the date to change it to a previous day and set the time to “all day”

As soon as I change the date/time, I can see the entry preview in the Timeline view update to only show the headings – any content I entered beneath the headings no longer shows up in the preview. At this point, if I were to click on another day’s entry and then back to the most recent entry, the most recent entry would be blank except for the headings inserted when I inserted the template.

To get around this, after changing the date:

    1. I click back into the body of the entry and make some minor change (say, adding a space)
    2. The date then resets itself to the present day & time, but my entered content once again shows up as expected in the preview in the Timeline view.
    3. I click back on the date to change it once again to the previous day.

Which works, but it’s kind of a pain. Is this a known issue, or is there something I’m doing wrong?

  • Hi @jo2468,

I could not reproduce this issue, so I wonder if there’s something specific to your setup causing this issue.

Do you happen to use Firefox private mode? Day One Web is compatible with most browsers, except for Mozilla Firefox in private mode, where functionality may be compromised.

Also, would you check if you’re using the latest version of their browser (outside of private mode)?

If you’re still seeing the issue outside of private mode, we’d like you to report the problem directly from the Web app interface. Please report them to us using the ‘Report a Problem’ link located in the top left corner of the main sidebar. Before doing so, we recommend reviewing our list of caveats and known issues, accessible through the following link.

We would also appreciate your assistance in debugging and troubleshooting the problem. This can be achieved by locating the developer console. Once found, please take note of any errors you observe, and include this information in your report. Doing so will expedite the process of resolving the issues.
