Day One, Strava and Default Templates

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve set up Strava on Day One. Now, there appears to be a discrepancy between the iPhone and Mac Desktop apps.

On the Mac I have linked Strava to load a specific template when it imports a workout/run/etc session into DayOne. But that same option doesn’t appear on the iPhone app. So, when I finish a workout or whatever, it just imports it to the Strava journal without using the template.

Is there an issue here or have I missed something.

Request #1 – could we be able to select the journal to import entries (I have only one journal that I use – now there are two with the Strava one)?

Request #2 – now, with regards to the imported entries it will display the Strava data in what appears to be an embedded image or graphic. This is probably me being fussy, but would it be possible to change the formatting of that text within the graphic? That is, to make it user configurable? I’d like it to be the same as the normal text that I use to make an entry.

    Thanks
    Martin

  • Hi @marts57,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Just so we’re on the same page, would you share a screenshot of the in-app page where you’ve configured the specific template?

You can create screenshots as shown here and post the link in a reply here.

Currently, the Strava activities are synced to a separate Strava journal, which is created as a new journal upon your initial Strava connection. I’ll submit a feature request on your behalf!

Currently, you can update the entry after the import.

It sounds like you want to customize the default formatting of the activity instead; is that correct?

If so, that’s not possible at the moment. Is there any specific formatting you’d like to see? We’d like to have as much detail as possible, so we can submit a compelling feature request.

    Hi.

    Thanks for the quick response.

Attached is an image from the Mac version of Dayone showing the template config for Strava imports.

As you can see in the image below I have “Walking the Dogs” template set for Strava imports but it’s not working.
This screen grab is from the Mac. I eventually found the same settings on the iPhone and it’s also configured for that template.

And yes, I’d love to be able to configure the format of the Strava report as it appears in the Journal entries.

    Thanks

    Martin

  • Hi @marts57,

Thank you for sharing the screenshot.

Currently, it is possible to set the custom template for any journals, including the “Strava” journal, only for manually created journal entries. For the entries automatically created via Strava activities, the custom template won’t apply.

Are there specific aspects of the current Strava entries formatting you’d like to change? We’d like to submit a feature request on your behalf with specific feedback for our development team’s consideration.

I hope that the developers will allow the use of custom templates for auto-generated Strava entries.

As for the formatting, I go in and highlight the text and change it to H2, I think it is. That is all that I can do with it. The text that is used by default isn’t that visually pleasing to me. Sure, it may not bother anyone else.

As you can see on the screen shot the only formatting tools that are available are those below the line (underline, bold and italics are greyed out).

I’m guessing that this will go into the “Too Hard” basket, though.

Sorry, I forgot to upload the screen shot on the last post.
