Day One crashes on startup MacOs
-
Day One on my MacBook Air M1 crashes on startup. It has done that since December 31. It works fine on my old MacMini. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall. But it does not help.

Same here since doing a bulk-add with the
dayone2utility. Submitted separate post with a crash log. -
I got it to finally open and _stay open_ by deleting the Group Container:
sudo rm -Rf ~/Library/Group Containers/5U8NS4GX82.dayoneapp*
However, you lose anything that has not synced with the online server. Fortunately, I can re-add the lost data.

Hi gloriouslyawkwardd11b7fe2f1
Deleting the group container worked. Thank you very much. I have everything online, so I didn’t loose data.

The #1 cause of any app on Mac crashing on startup is trying to load bad data from its container; wiping that data out almost always fixes things. :-)
I also discovered that if you’re adding data in bulk via the
dayone2command line it’s best to insert a second pause between executions so the app has a chance to ingest it. -
Hi @gloriouslyawkwardd11b7fe2f1 – I don’t have that group container exactly as you listed. Would it be the one called com.dayoneapp.dayone? This has the same icon as the Dayone App.
Then I have a folder called com.dayoneapp.dayone-agent, which has a folder called “Data” that has a bunch of shortcuts to my desktop, documents folder, movies and music folders in it and a Library folder. As well as a thing called Container.plist
Then there are 4 folders called variations of “com.bloombuilt.dayone-mac” which all have that Container.plist file and the Data folder with those shortcuts again.
I don’t want to delete the wrong thing!

I uninstalled Day One and then I deleted this to folders. Then I installed Day One again and it worked.
