Data lost

I use Day One fairly often, perhaps daily or several times a day. ‘

Today, I opened up an entry within Day One that I have been working on for several days, and ALL of the information or data that I had typed into this entry yesterday (and perhaps even the day before) was MISSING. Several hours of work, that cannot be easily reproduced is just gone……POOF. It was there all day yesterday and I had opened the app last night and read many things from the entry to someone else, at that time…..and when I opened the entry this morning it is all gone?

Is there any way to get it back?

The only thing I can think that may have contributed, is I had prior entered all of the data on my iPad version of Day One. Last night, I opened my iPhone version and added a photo from my photo library on my iPhone version of the entry and closed the iPhone app entry. Perhaps the iPhone app had not synced the versions to the cloud and when it saved, it erased all of the data from the iPad version and overwrote it. Many of my apps have options that would prevent this issue from happening and would save BOTH versions and ask the user to choose which to save (or like mentioned, save BOTH) and that way the user could at least look at the versions and merge them manually by typing or cutting and pasting). Is there any way to fix this? Is there any way to recover my lost data?

I’m having a similar experience. I just lost all of my work and want to see whether I can recover it. It’s happened several times before when I use DayOne my iPhone and forget to press ‘Done’ to close the window. Then whatever work I’ve done on my MacBook gets erased when I open DayOne on my phone again. In the past I’d realized what I done and managed to copy the entry on my MacBook before it synced to my phone, and recover it that way, but today it beat me to it. All of my work gone. The DayOne help entry wasn’t clear. I’m backing up to iCloud, but there’s no ‘Use iCloud’ to select or any back up files that I locate. Thanks.

Hi @tachyone. Thanks for letting us know. Have you tried using the Version History option to recover a former saved state? https://dayoneapp.com/guides/troubleshooting/entry-version-history/

Yes, but for some reason that I cannot explained, the version history seems to have NO versions listed between 4/6/24 and 4/8/24 at about 5 pm, (the time I added the photo on my iPhone)….even though I spent much of 4/7 and 4/8/24 adding notes to the iPad entry of Day One. The iPad was on wifi thought-out that time, so I do not understand where I do not see any entries in the version history for this period of time?

That should say “throughout that time…….”
