Continued sync issues

I continue to have sync problems. This was discovered last fall when I had an unexpected device issue and had to resync with a new device. Sporadic entries over multiple journals were missing for months. All sync settings were verified with support and clearly some entries were not uploading to the server during that time. No resolution was provided to this, so I have started doing journal exports periodically from the local device.

Now, this seems to still be an issue as I review the web version and it states it is caught up, but is weeks behind on what is showing in the device. The device states that it is ‘up to date’ on sync through this morning. I am uncertain at this point what to do other than to reevaulate the use of the tool. The journals and functionality are important to me, so not having reliable access is concerning. Is this a common issue or is there a resolution that I am missing?

There are a few common causes of sync issues. I recommend following the suggestions you see on the guide here: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/troubleshooting/solving-sync-troubles/

If those don’t work for you, let us know here and we’ll continue troubleshooting with you until this is resolved

I’m experiencing this issue,as well. You’re not the only one.

I am also having a similar problem. My Phone and iPad sync with the server, but not my Mac, which is which I most use and where I journal important information. It is all very frustrating!

I’m also having a sudden sync problem here with premium subscription, which is affecting my entries starting on April 29, 2024 and forward. I have the Mac and iOS versions at their latest updates, and I primarily journal on my Mac and rely on everything pulling down to the iOS version via sync.

I contacted support, got the automated email response, tried what it says, and no improvement. I responded further to support with another symptom to share with them but did not hear back yet.

When I open the iOS app, the cloud icon in the upper right corner no longer indicates that a sync is occurring with its normal animation motion. It used to be that every time I opened the iOS app, the sync icon would indicate activity, but no more. It just remains a static white cloud icon. If I click the cloud icon it reports that a sync just occurred.

When I open my Mac and make a new entry, it does not come down to iOS. I tried a manual sync in iOS, this did not help. So the sync status on iOS says its up to date, but it is not pulling in the updates to entries from April 29 or any new entries either. iOS sync is stalled.

Any suggestions for how to kick start the iOS sync?

Replying to my own post above…I logged into Day One Web to verify something, and I see everything there that’s on my iOS device, but my latest Mac entries mentioned above are not in Day One Web. That would mean that it’s my Mac that stopped syncing, and not my iPhone. I will now open up a support ticket initiated from my Mac instead.

  • @anydaynowjtony perfect! We will keep an eye out for your ticket. Great detective work!

  • @iandarke & @cambridgeport90: can you please confirm if the steps from https://dayoneapp.com/guides/troubleshooting/solving-sync-troubles/ has helped? Also, do you see any error messages on your Mac when attempting to sync?

Did you ever get your missing journals back? I hope so!! I’m in the middle of this same situation and I’m terrified the lost journals and entries won’t be recovered. Contacted support today and will see what they say.

Same problem here! I’m a premium user and I use both Mac and IOS. Suddenly in September 2024, my app was missing all entries beyond March 2024, which included multiple journals and dozens of entries. The items are gone on both IOS and Mac. Just gone! I did all of the troubleshooting suggested by DayOne support. My sync is on for both icloud and Google drive, and it shows that my latest sync was this morning. Encryption key, subscription status, account info are all in tact and identical between Mac and IOS, but no trace of my missing entries. I contacted support this morning and I’ll update this post after working with them. The journals I lost are of once-in-a-lifetime importance as my niece died unexpectedly last spring, and I did a lot of remembering and processing in my journals. There were images, videos, and so many heartfelt words. Again, all of my journals were in tact all throughout the spring and summer, UNTIL SEPTEMBER when everything beyond March disappeared. DayOne support has been extremely helpful with past issues and I’m Hoping for a resolution this time too!

  • @kjoyhobbs, It looks like we have followed up with you by email, we can continue troubleshooting from there as necessary. :)
