changing the login method
-
I have stopped using my mac device and now I would like to change the method of logging in to the program with an apple id to log in via email and password for use on an android device. How can this be done?
-
To change your method of login from Apple ID to email you can take the following steps:
- Use Sign In With Apple to login with your Apple ID at dayone.me
- Once logged in head to Settings
- There, add your desired email and set a password
Then you can use that same email and password on your Android device.
If you have any trouble with the process please, share your Day One User ID with me here https://dayoneapp.com/guides/settings/day-one-user-id/

Thanks a lot for the reply. Unfortunately, I am unable to use your recommendations. When adding a new email address, it does not change, although an email arrives stating that a change should take place. I can’t change the password either, because you need to specify a valid password to change it, and I don’t know it. And I don’t know how to get it. Perhaps it is generated without my participation, simultaneously with the generation of this strange address from Apple ((email visible only to moderators and staff) ). Using your link, I enter my User ID consisting of 6 digits and receive the message “No results found”. I’m at a loss. 9 years of records may be missing.

I am finding the whole process of logging in to Day One to be a total mysterious mess. I log in with my Apple ID using touch ID on my iPad. But then once Day One comes up each of the journals requires that I separately login to that journal. Why does this have to be such a mess? I will gladly forfeit the so-called “ease” of logging in with the touch ID on the iPad if I can just get to a single username and password that I can use anywhere anytime on any platform by just typing in the username and password. I do wish to sync across multiple devices with multiple OS platforms (iOS, Windows, etc.).

@jszurek There’s no need to log in to each of your Journals in Day One app. It sounds like you may need to enter your Encryption key instead.
Did you just install the Day One app on a new device? Do you use the Day One app on any other devices? If so, without sharing the key with us, you can try to find the encryption in the following places:
- iOS: Day One > Settings > Sync > Encryption Key
- Mac: Day One > Settings > Sync > Advanced > View Encryption Key
- Android: Day One > Settings > Sync > Encryption Key
- Web: Day One > Settings > Account > Encryption Key
I will gladly forfeit the so-called “ease” of logging in with the touch ID on the iPad if I can just get to a single username and password that I can use anywhere anytime on any platform by just typing in the username and password.
It’s possible to add an email and password to your Day One account that is previously signed in by Apple ID. You can check our guide here:
Add an email/password to your Day One Sync account with Apple ID or Google Account
Let us know if that’s what you’re asking about or if it’s about something else.

Help! I am so frustrated at DayOne’s lack of support for premium members. I used “Sign In w/ Apple” when I set up the account, now I want to sign into a non-apple device, the instructions do not work to change the login. I am now locked out of 2 of my devices and cannot get ahold of anyone at DayOne to look at my account to see what is happening. These are the most important memories and information to me, they are priceless. If I can’t get ahold of someone to help with a problem, what happens if something really serious happens? How can DayOne expect people to trust them with all of this important data and offer no real support options. Posting in a forum? The page to submit a form is even broken, and has been for at least 2 weeks, just says try again later. 2 weeks later, still broken. I’d attach a screenshot…but I can’t in the forum…
And forget the in-app submission for support, already did that, no response, no 2 months after multiple submissions.
Can anyone recommend a way to get ahold of support that actually works? I love the tool but I’ll need to make a change if not. Thanks for your help. -
Hello @darrenandbrandi,
Sign In with Apple is supported on all platforms Day One is available on. Should you wish to add an email address and password to your account though, you can do that by following the steps here: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-sync/add-an-email-password-to-your-day-one-sync-account-with-apple-id/
And forget the in-app submission for support, already did that, no response, no 2 months after multiple submissions.
An initial response may have been sent by our AI responder. If you do not respond to that email as stated in the reply, then we may not see that ticket as it will close assuming the issue was resolved with what AI suggested.
You can reach out to support directly through the app or at dayone.me/support.
Again, if a response is given, then you may need to respond to that if you still need further help.
