Can’t delete entries

  • Unknown's avatar

Usually I can delete entries okay, but I’ve got three I created directly on dayone.me, and found I couldn’t edit them there. I then tried to delete them from the Mac App (2024.13 1568) and as soon as I delete them, they reappear. If I try to edit them, then the edits disappear too, same as on the web app. I’ve also tried from my iPhone running 2024.15 (2521)

  • That’s certainly unexpected!

Could you ensure that Day One is closed on all of your devices, including the Mac app, and try deleting the entries from the web app again?

I’m wondering if there could be some sort of sync conflict occurring.

I would also see if you can edit those entries to add some random text before deleting them as well.

Let us know how it goes!

It was closed on all other devices at the time of recording the GIF – and no matter which device I edit from, it loses the text. I’ve had that for posts created on the web app before, but usually when that happens I can delete the post and recreate it via the Mac app or iPhone app fine.

I do also have an issue where one of my journals can’t be accessed on Day One on an M-series MBP (but can be on an older version of Day One running on my old Intel Macbook Air, on my iPhone, and via the web app) where I believe me going back and adding location data in bulk to posts is what’s breaking it. I don’t think the two issues are related though, but mentioning it just in case.

Okay, I just found something interesting out… if I add a location to the posts I can’t edit or delete, the location data does save! I still can’t edit the contents though, or delete 😅

In the logs I can see:

Moving Entry to Trash with UUID …

ChangeID update needed for … because of changed keys: restorationJournal
Fetching list of all journals after cursor …
    Uploading entry – … – DELETE – Parent …
    Decrypting entry – …
    Upload successful! – …/… – outcome dirty

Restoring Entry from Trash with UUID …

“Outcome dirty” does make it sound like there’s a sync issue perhaps, but no other devices have the app open at the time of trying this

I think my _other_ issue is related to:

Should handle inaccessible fault called on object with ID … . Triggered by property: temperatureCelsius

Interesting! I’m emailing you now so we can investigate further together. Let me know here if you don’t see that today.

I did as you asked, and got told to use the forums 😂

I’ve finally been able to delete the entries! Not sure how as I’ve not changed anything, just happened to try again before getting the diagnostics so they’d be in the log. The issue with not being able to access one of my journals (my original one) using Mac OS X Sonama on M silicon remains though (i.e. it crashing when accessing it)

    Hi @jedi58,

It sounds like you received an auto-response. Please reply to that email, we’ll then be able to respond.

I’m glad to hear that you were able to delete the entries, even if the solution seemed to resolve itself. :) Regarding not being able to access one of your journals, we would like to investigate that further. Please go ahead and reply to the auto-response email with any additional details, and we will be with you as quickly as we can.

I opened the app this morning and they’re back, and can’t delete them again

    Thanks,

I’ve replied to the email with the three affected entry IDs. When I thought I’d been able to delete them, this was via the web app.

  • Hi there, @jedi58
