Can I recover Day One Classic data from an iPhone Backup?

Recently I had to trade in my iPhone for a new one because it could no longer make or receive calls. So I backed it up (local backup via iTunes on Windows), traded it in for a new iPhone, and restored from the backup.

I was eventually able to get everything up and running again , except the Day One journal app — turned out I had inadvertently still been using the Day One Classic app, long after its sell-by date (the new Day One app was also on my phone, but journal entries were split across the two app versions).

While Day One Classic worked fine on my old phone, attempts to use it on my new phone resulted in attempts to download the app from the iTunes store, where it apparently no longer exists.

So now I have lost access to several years’ worth of journal entries that I inadvertently entered on the legacy Classic app — although they are almost certainly saved as XML files in the final backup of my old iPhone, and may even be on my new phone somewhere.

I attempted to import Day One Classic journal entries into the new Day One app on my new phone, but it only found one entry.

Is there any way to recover the missing journal entries? Ideally I’d love to merge them into the new Day One app, but I’ll take raw XML files over nothing!

Did you get anywhere on this? I cannot get DayOne to respond other then to use the import feature, but that just says No Day One Classic Journals found.

Hello! We will do our best to help.

Since Day One Classic was retired in March 2016 and removed from the App Store, restoring from an iPhone/iTunes backup will likely not help.

We do have additional recovery options in this guide: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-classic/day-one-classic-version-1-recovery-options/

Please try as many of those options as possible.
