Bug with external keyboard & editor when in split view on iPadOS
-
Hi, I’m having an issue with the latest Day One app (2024.20) on iPadOS 18.0.1. I believe this bug has been there for a while and I do not believe it is new to latest version or iOS 18 (but I was on 18 beta in summer, so my memory could be incorrect here).
When you are editing an entry if the app is in split view (in this case I have Preview in 50% on left and Day one as 50% on right) when using an external keyboard it sets the view of the editor to use the space beneath both Day One’s own formatting bar (where you add tags, images, attachments) and also the floating iPadOS Shortcuts bar with auto complete suggestions. This makes it so that you can not see the text you are writing if the text of the entry is long enough.
A few other useful callouts:
- This issue is not present if full screen OR if Day One is in split view with 75% of the window
- The issue appears when Day One has 50% or 25% of the iPad screen
- I am using Ideal Sans size 22 font, though I don’t believe this contributes
This completely breaks my ability to use Day One so hopefully it can be addressed soon. 😀 My specific use case is I am looking at a scanned journal entry on the left and transcribing on the right. Difficult to do if you can’t see what you are writing.
Please let me know if you need any follow up information

I was planning to file this exact same bug! I can also confirm that this happens with very specific iPad configurations as listed above, and it also constitutes a huge percentage of how I use Day One, so I would love for this to be prioritized for a fix if possible.
