Best practices for copying many entries to a shared journal?

I have a decently large personal journal (about 800 entries, almost all with photos/videos) housing family photos, memories, etc. I’d like to copy all of these entries into a shared journal to share with my family. What’s the best-practice/recommended way to do that?

I have tried selecting and copying small groups of journal entries in the iOS app, and they seem to copy to the shared journal ok. But I don’t have the time to spend a whole weekend moving 800 entries, 20 at a time. And when I select all entries and copy those, the app just sits…for a long time…showing an “In Progress” dialog box without any progress indicator. I have no idea how long that might take to complete, and I also worry about how resilient the copy process will be, over so many entries. Are there recommendations for the best way to accomplish this? (Honestly, what I’d really like is an option to convert this whole journal into a shared journal…maybe someday?)

  • Hi @daveg314159 – Thanks for the question! Your journal entry migration project is one of the largest that we’ve heard of so far, so we understand that you’re wanting a more efficient way to accomplish the task.

Right now, the best way to copy the entries and move them into a Shared Journal is the way you’ve described. You can select entries in the timeline view, then copy those into the shared journal. The current reason for the limitation of 20 entries at a time is to ensure the entries get properly moved to their new location.

I’ve recommended a new feature request to our developers that could allow the export and import of selected journal entries into a Shared Journal, but I don’t have a timeline on when or if that might be implemented. We also have another existing feature request that would allow the conversion of an existing journal to a Shared Journal, so I’ll add this request to that one as well.
