Backup logic?
-
Apple people – I have a Plus account and about 6GB of entries in 5 journals and they are synced between Mac / iPad / iPhone. Obviously I don’t want to lose it anytime. iCloud Backup on iPhone / iPad always confuses me and am reluctant to switch off backups of apps. But to save wasted Apple iCloud space can I safely switch off DayOne from the iPhone and iPad device Backups – cos that’s nearly 12GB in iCloud! It’s backed up on Day One’s servers isn’t it or I couldn’t sync between devices. And my Mac must back it up locally via Time Machine along with local drive copies via Carbon Copy Cloner? (I also periodically export my journals as PDF files). Any comments on safe backup strategy/

Good thoughts here!
First, I wanted to let you know you can verify exactly what we have saved for you by checking out your data in our web app at https://dayone.me/ . That will load everything we’ve got saved. If you haven’t used it before here’s how to get started: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-on-the-web/getting-started-on-the-web/

I can understand that! The iCloud backup of your phone will restore the device to exactly as it was when the back up was taken. This is awesome if you accidentally lose your device, but can be tricky if you’re just trying to restore 1 entry from 6 weeks ago.

If you have Time Machine backups they will have a copy of the entries you see on your Mac when the back up is taken.
I hope that helps inform you a bit better about your choices for back up. We also have more information in our guides at https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-sync/backup-and-sync-options-on-ios-and-macos/
