Attempting to add video on macos crashes app/loses video
-
What the title says. I’m on a new M3 Max MacBook Pro and this has been happening since, umm, day one.

Hello @realdroop,
This should be resolved on version 2024.12.
Please try updating to that version if you haven’t yet by clicking on the link below.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/day-one/id1055511498?mt=12
Let us know if you’re still seeing the crash after updating.

I’m still seeing this crash when uploading a video from the Mac application.
Software version 2024.18. It has persisted for several versions now.

Thanks for letting us know, and sharing the relevant logs. Can you let me know the video file type you’re uploading and the exact steps you’re using to add it? For example, are you using the paper clip icon in the app, dragging and dropping it, or copy and pasting the video from elsewhere?
The more details you can share on the exact process that’s triggering the crash, the better.
-
I apologise for not including more information in my previous message. When I try to add a video to a Day One entry by dragging and dropping, using the paperclip, or copying/pasting, the app crashes. Before crashing, a ‘Processing Video’ dialog with a progress bar appears, but it doesn’t progress.
I’ve attempted to add MOV and M4V video files, but the issue persists. Interestingly, I’ve been able to add these videos to a post on an iPad and another M1 Mac with a similar configuration.
I’ve recorded my screen to demonstrate the process & problem, and the video is located at Screen Recording 2024-09-24 at 9.53.54 am.mov.
The problem may be related to the video resolution. I can successfully add Full HD videos, but not 4K videos. For example, I can’t add the above screen recording (3340×2030).

Hello @kalvin1632!
Could we have you try updating to version 2024.19?
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/day-one/id1055511498?mt=12
The link above should take you to the latest update. If you’re still running into the same issue after updating, please let us know.
-
Thanks for that update. Went I went to that link, version 2024.19 was already uploaded.
I re-tried the uploading, and received the same crash error.
The screen grab is available at https://1drv.ms/i/s!AslQO-w7-sk7pAadiilpObBaco_E?e=Jo1tXF
For some reason, I cannot attach media to this forum, so I have added it via OneDrive.

@kalvin1632 Thanks for giving that a try. We’ll reach out to you on your email (the one you use for this forum) to continue helping you on this. Thanks again!
