Apple Watch recordings

I’ve already pointed out that one of my main frustrations with ‘Day One’ is the lack of variable speed playback on voice recordings.

However, I’m currently struggling with every entry that I make by recording my voice using the Apple Watch remains as ‘ pending‘.

This results in there being two entries in my journal if I adjust the title of the entry that I captured from the watch.

Since the initial recording remains as pending, it appears to continue to sync again and again if the title is changed from the original recording.

This has to be a bug.

At the moment I have to manually delete each pending item in order for this to stop happening. This did not used to be the case and I’m wondering what has changed and why this continues to happen.

Is this a known bug? If not then please take this as proof that this is an issue.

… I’m surprised that more people aren’t up in arms about the playback interface and the lack of pause during recordings. Voice recordings are such an important part of my Journal experience and I do often feel very alone when making comments like this as they just don’t seem to be supported and I do wonder why not.

You are definitely not alone! If anything, the Apple Watch App desperately needs to be updated as there’s quite a few UI issues with it as well.

But just like you, I have a lot of pending recordings and I also have many duplicates in my journal and wow, it is getting annoying.

To anyone reading this, please, the Apple Watch app needs to be updated.

I am however trying my best to leave the app open for as long as possible in an attempt to get Day One on my devices to finally finish syncing as it’s been in progress for weeks now and Im hoping that doing that will maybe get the Apple Watch App to update the Pending entries as well but I’ll see.

Thanks so much for responding to my message. It’s so important that our message is heard on this as it does feel like we are being completely ignored.

I don’t understand why Day One haven’t addressed this issue as It would seem a significant one for anybody who uses the Apple Watch

Good luck waiting for it to sync. I’ve been waiting quite some time for mine and haven’t seen any change without deleting the pending items myself, before they become too many to manage.

Am I right in saying that this didn’t happen before and has only begun to happen recently? Or was I just lucky?

  • Thanks both @marcusboswell and @possiblyfreddy for bringing this up.

    This has now been reported.

We do receive reports regarding the Apple Watch app, which seems to be generating many duplicates per entry.

Is this also happening to both or any of you? Or your issue is more about entries from the Apple Watch app never or very slow in syncing to the phone’s app, but they aren’t duplicated in any way?

No, I’m not experiencing duplicates on the Apple Watch itself. Just the issue is surrounding them not syncing immediately (as opposed to never syncing at all). The Issue is that once they have moved across, they are not gone from the watch and still appear to be pending syncing. This means that any change to the title (within my journal), result in a duplicate within the journal, because the pending item goes over again… Eventually.

Either way it’s a bit of a nightmare (to put it mildly). I look forward to seeing these multiple issues resolved.

Whilst I have your attention, please don’t forget the last portion of my original message talking about the pause option and playback interface to include multiple speed playback.

    One can dream.

Thank you for reporting these. We understand it is frustrating and we are working as quickly as we can on any bugs.

I have submitted your request for this. Thank you!

I have the repeating entries from my Apple Watch too. I would dearly love variable playback and a pause recording function. @marcusboswell Just Press Record has a pause recording function which you might like. You can then transfer the recording and transcription to D/O.
Could we also sort out the UI for deleting recording? Some of the icons are missing their lower portion.

  • @yr5rh9hqdp Thanks for chiming in! I have added your +1 to the bug report.

This has now been reported to our developers. It will likely take some time to address this particular issue, which unfortunately I don’t have an exact timeframe on.

Thanks for your patience and understanding in the meantime!

I wanted to share another update with you all. Our team found the root cause of the issue, and it will be corrected in our update 2024.14, which we plan to release the week of July 8th.

Thank you all for reaching out and all your patience with us on this.
