App not working after update?
-
After my IPad automatically tried installing the latest day one update the app won’t open at all. The app is greyed out and says “Waiting…” I have tried restarting my iPad, signing out of the App Store, turning on airplane mode, etc
I really, REALLY would like to not have to resort to uninstalling as I didn’t know you had to save an encryption key to recover synced entries, and I have over 1,000 entries spanning across 2 years!!!
There IS an option for when I click and hold the app icon to “cancel download” but im iffy on whether that will just stop the update from happening and let me go back to using the app as normal, or will delete the app entirely and/or result in some sort of data loss.
FYI I also just recently installed iPad OS 26.2
Im wondering if this is an already known issue and I would really appreciate any solutions!! Thank you

Same.
Same here.
I just want to retrieve my journal entries and delete my account and get my money back.
I loved the Day One app. I used it a lot for everything.
If this is how they treat their customers I’m not going to give them a chance to screw me twice .

This is an App Store issue. Devs do not control the app update process. Please try force-restarting the device or these steps: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102632

I figured and have already tried force restarting the device and following the steps multiple times, and none of it has worked. Im more concerned about how to save my data since the only other solution I can find is to delete the app & I don’t have my encryption key. If I choose the “offload app” option in my storage settings will that work to save all my entries, or will the entries become encrypted? Or if I choose to “cancel download” will it only delete the update or will it delete the app entirely?

@mtxhq4w8w7 don’t delete the app if you’re not sure data is synced. You should be able to log in to dayone.me in a web browser to verify if you saved your encryption key to iCloud or Google Drive
I don’t recommend offloading either. Not my favorite Apple feature.
“cancel download” will not delete the app. It will just stop the updating process.

How exactly do I verify if I’ve saved my encryption key? I went to the web app and it has the correct number of entries but they’re behind locked journals, and I have an option to add a key but can’t see if I’ve saved it or not
Just for clarification, the cancel download option *will not delete any of my data?* Im unsure of whether there is any update process to stop since in the App Store it shows as if it already updated and gives me the button to open it (which doesn’t work) but on my home screen it’s still “waiting” so cancel download seems pretty sketchy to me

correct. I’m almost positive. Deleting the app would delete local data, but canceling the download should not.
the app update process is done by Apple. I’m surprised to hear force restarting the device did not help. It usually does. Can you confirm you did the force restart steps and not just power off and back on?
