App constantly needs to reload when I leave it and open it again

    I use the DayOne app for journaling on my iPhone 6s, and every time I leave the app and go back, even only after a few seconds, the app freezes and needs to reload, which sometimes can take more than 30 seconds.

    At first, I thought that it’s normal behavior because I left the app, so going in it again would obviously take some time. But over time I noticed that I hardly ever have the same issue with other apps, including Apple Notes and Safari.

    If I leave Apple Notes or Safari for more than 5 minutes, sometimes it needs to reload but if I leave the app and go back after only a few seconds, it never needs to reload. But for DayOne, it still needs to reload even after a few seconds.

    Do you maybe know what could cause this ? Any way to fix this issue ?

    Maybe I should add that I have been using the app since 2018, first on an iPhone 5s and since a year on an iPhone 6s with iOS 15.7.8 . I went premium for a year (2019-2020). I unfortunately don’t remember if it already happened back then, it’s only recently that I started to notice this. Whenever I leave the app, if I go back even a few seconds later, the app freezes, and sometimes even crashes (so the iPhone goes back on the unlocked home screen with all apps showing). The freeze can last from a few seconds to about 30 seconds, and if the app crashed once, closing the app and reopening it solves the issue. But I just wonder what might cause this behavior.

    DayOne is the only note takig app I regularly use, I assumed until recently that maybe all note taking apps are like this, that’s why I didn’t thought much about this issue until now. But recently I used Apple Notes sometimes and noticed that this behavior never happens. If I leave Apple Notes and go back after a few seconds, there is no freeze, no crash. It’s only after a few minutes that the app sometimes needs to reload, like Safari too.

    Hello @friederpeter1. We’ll do our best to troubleshoot with you. Are you able to update the iPhone to iOS 16?

    The version of Day One under Settings -> About is shown as “Version 4.10.2 (623)”. The iPhone 6s is limited to iOS 15, it’s the last supported iOS version for this iPhone. Updating to iOS 16 is unfortunately not possible.

    Same here using iPhone 12 and latest iOS / Day One releases.
    No crash, but a needed refresh when opening DP most of the time, which is new since a few months (can’t remember when).

    @jcdichant can you please try logging in and out of the app and leaving it open while Day One does a full re-sync of your data? If that doesn’t resolve things, please restart your device. Then reach out here if you’re still seeing Day One restart when you open it. We’ll continue to assist until it’s resolved

    Morning,

    I’m using the iPhone SE 2022, with updated iOS version and Day One. I experienced this issue starting from this month. I tried logging out & in and keeping it open while syncing like you suggested. But no results. Still needs to close & reopen it after leaving it for few seconds. After leaving it for few seconds, simply opening it doesn’t load anything and needs a restart.

    A second issue i found is when i use it on mobile network and then switch to wifi, it doesn’t load for few minutes. I either need to wait for few minutes or restart it again to laod if i don’t want to wait.

    Sorry for not replying. That time, the version was, i think, 4.8. I updated it in may update 4.10 or 4.11 which fixed the issue.
