All journals lost in data transfer to new phone. Help?

    when I logged in I needed to change my password. All previous journal entries were lost.

    Based on my observations in this discussion forum, when a situation involves a new password and/or a new device and there are no journal entries after logging in, the cause of the problem is almost always that the new login is different from the old one. Day One is a little over-accommodating in this regard. If you log in with credentials that don’t match an existing account, Day One happily creates a new account. I’m betting that’s what you’re seeing on your new phone now.

    If you log in to DayOne.me using your old credentials, you should see the entries you are missing. If you see the entries, then that should assure you that they are not lost and this problem is just an account mix-up. If you don’t see them on DayOne.me (using your old credentials, that’s important), then there might be a larger problem, one that someone from Day One would need to assist with.

    When you say that you “needed” to change the password, how exactly do you mean “needed”? Did the app display an alert saying you were required to change the password? Is it because you forgot the old password? Typically, you should just be able to install the app, log in, and see the data. I’ve done this for new devices between 2011 and now. In my case, I logged in using a user name and password, and I store that information in a password app for safekeeping.

    There are two ways to access a Day One account. One way is using Apple and the other way is using a user ID (typically an email address). Do you remember how you accessed Day One on your old phone?

    If none of this helps, post again indicating that and someone from Day One should be able to assist. However, it would help them if you included more detailed information about the environment you are operating in:

    • What kind of phone are you using, Apple or Android?
    • What is the OS version?
    • It sounds like your installation here is the latest available version of Day One. Is that correct?
    • Did you install from the Apple App Store or from Day One on the web?
    • Do you still have the login credentials you were using before you changed phones?
    • Do you use Day One on any other devices in addition to the phone?
